CPS #166 & SPCC #47

I love having Monday's off! I had all these great plans for today but I ended up waking up at 10:30, ate and watched Top Chef Masters, then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch till 3:00!! I wanted to be a teeny tiny bit productive so here's a quick card for Card Positioning Systems #166 and SPCC #47. I'm still trying to showcase stamp sets from the new Summer Mini catalogue. This super cute stamp set is perfect to create scrapbook pages for vacations. There's so uber cute paper to match the stamp set but unfortunately the colors don't match SPCC's color challenge. Another great bonus, this stamp set qualifies for this month's bonus of a free package of designer brads! Hope everyone had a more productive day than I did!!

PPC-CC #12

I hope everyone had a great mother's day! We ended up having dinner at my brother's place with a bunch of family. I baked a tiramisu genoise layer cake and for some reason it was ridiculously dry. I have no idea happened. It's such a finicky cake that I really should just stop trying to bake it. I've baked it 3 times now and I think it only turned out once. And that "turned out" is more like a "turned out better". We'll see if there's another occasion for me to bake another cake because I still have another entire container of marscapone cream. Now onto this week's Picture Perfect Creations Crafty Challenge. We're already up to challenge 12!! Megan chose Bravo Burgundy which I can honestly say I have never used. I cracked open that ink pad and did some aqua painting after I realized that using the SU marker was going to be too dark. SPCC #46

Yay one card made today! It really isn't a big enough accomplishment but I guess it's better than zero cards made. It feels like I have a never ending list of things to do. Ever feel that way? I spent time at a friend's yesterday and it really made me realize how much junk I have in my house!! It's unbelievable actually... Jamie and I are both pack rats so that makes for a really ridiculous house. Our friend Penny is having a garage sale on May 20/21 and I'm going to do some major clean-up and sell-off. Hopefully we can get rid of a bunch of stuff and make a few bucks. But on a totally different note, my friend Julie just started blogging and she's got some good stuff going on. Her blog is full of recipes and tidbits of info on cooking. Check it out here. Now for my card for SPCC #46. I immediately wanted to use the new stamp set Sweet Scoops from the Summer Mini Catalogue when I saw these colors. This set reminds me so much of an old school ice cream parlor. I love it!

SPCC #45

Boy it's been busy lately! But then again, when is it ever not busy?? And I don't even have kids!! I don't know how all those crafty ladies do it out there! Maybe that's why there's so many late night crafters. So I have to share 2 stories before I write about my card. Story 1: Jamie and I were dog food shopping yesterday and we were at an intersection trying to make a left turn. There were a bunch of cars parked along our left hand side so it was hard to see if there were any oncoming cards. Jamie pulls out a bit and there was a car so he stopped and started reversing. The car continues along in front of us and it's this sweet old couple that look about 70, white hair and all. The wife is driving and as they pass us... The husband in the passenger seat gave us the finger!!! My jaw just dropped. I have never been flipped off by an elderly person before. I can expect that from a teenage punk but a 70 year old grandpa?? Boy was I shocked and upset. Story 2: I had to work today and I walk up from the parkade and when I entered the office, I was in tropical office weather!! Now our new office building has been having air circulation problems. Last week we had temperatures of up to 28 degrees Celsius (82 F) in our clinic rooms and today the thermostat read 31 degrees Celsius (87.8 F)!!! I was so grouchy doing my work all afternoon. I had to go to the sink every 3 minutes and water myself down! Unbelievable!! Ok stories shared, moving onto my card. 

Like I promised, I'll be trying to make cards using stamp sets that are from the new Summer Mini Catalogue. This set is called Elements of Style and qualifies for this month's scrapbooking promotion of free designer brads! This card is for SPCC #45. I stamped the main image in craft basic black then embossed it with black embossing powder. Then I sponged on color, cut it out and popped it up on a Dusty Durango sheet that I dry embossed with the Big Shot. I used the new Smooch spray (also from the new mini) but you can't really tell from the photo. The sentiment is from the set Asian Artistry. I'm off to bed now. SPCC #44

Boy I sure lucked out with this week's SPCC color challenge. I was working on a card for a coworker whose boyfriend loves bright green and orange. So the card I was making used Only Orange instead of Dusty Durango because it's so much brighter of an orange color! I don't often veer from the colors suggested but in this case, I'm doing it for a good reason. The card features a couple things from the upcoming Summer Mini catalogue from Stampin' Up. The new lattice embossing folder is used and the builder wheel. Hopefully her boyfriend likes it.

Jeepers!!! It's been one crazy weekend!! I've been complaining to Jamie all week that our entire April weekends have been booked up. It's insane! I'm having trouble finding time to craft even though I have 4 days off because I've been stressing over my TAXES!!! Boy do I ever hate taxes and I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about when I tell myself, "I need to keep better records for next year's taxes." The worst part of taxes isn't the actual taxes, it's finding all the bloody receipts and bills to claim. Anyways it seems like I've been doing late night crafting and pictures lately and tonight is no different. Here's my attempt at this week's SPCC color challenge and Clean and Simple's Fall to layout sketch challenge. I'm really really liking the sketch and I'll probably have to use one of my favorite sets, Circle Circus, to make another card with that layout. I didn't have any patterned paper in the colors so I just made my own by punching out the circles and then stamping a design onto them. Now I'm definitely not very smart because I didn't realize that the Yoyo Yellow ink I decided to use on the Glorious Green card stock would show up looking that yellow in photos. The other thing that makes me not smart is when I stamped it, because the ink was wet, it appeared darker. Now that the ink is dry, you can hardly see anything on the Glorious Green circles!! Bahumbug! I'll have to figure out something tomorrow to fix it. I just might rip it off, re-stamp it and glue it back on. Anyways I'm off to bed. It's been a looong day for my poor little brain.

SPCC #42 & Sketch Girl #15

Boy it's mighty late and I'm exhausted!! It's almost 1 AM and Jamie comes downstairs asking me if I'm ready for bed. My answer is a big fat no so he asks if I'm still posting. I poked fun at him a bit saying, "That's what bloggers do hunny." because he hasn't posted on his blog for like.. a year? LOL. So here's my card for this week's Sketch Girl #15 and SPCC #42. The main image is using the floating reinker technique which I am doing at this month's workshops. A picture tutorial can be found here. You basically use shimmery card stock, stamp and emboss your image and then spritz water over top to cover the entire card stock. Then take your aqua painter and reinkers and add it to the water and watch it float all over. Super fun and super easy. I thought it needed a bit of something extra so I added the faux stitching and I'm not sure if it was a good idea... I attempted to erase it and lemme tell you, it doesn't work. Why on earth I thought it might even remotely work is beyond me. Anyways I'm off to bed!! G'nite!

Last Minute SPCC 41

I'm posting super last minute for this week's SPCC challenge. I've been on vacation for the last 10 days and it's been BUSY! I'll have to share photos when I have a bit more time from my LA trip and also my mini Hinton, Alberta mountain's long weekend. I didn't even have time to unpack all my stuff yet! SPCC #40 & Inspiration in Action Weekend Sketch Challenge 122

Bound for Los Angeles, California in T minus 12 hours. Yay!!! A bunch of girlfriends are getting together to celebrate Jennifer's stagette. I'm very excited to get away. I'll be gone till next Wednesday so I had to stay up and play this week's SPCC challenge. I haven't missed a week since I stumbled onto the site and I won't let a little vacation get in the way! I decided to pair it with Gretchen's Inspiration in Action Weekend Sketch Challenge 122. It's the first time I've played with Gretchen's sketches and I loved it!! Here's my take on both challenges. 

So Khuno got groomed on Tuesday at Fabulous Furballs and I was a little disappointed this time around. Fabulous Furballs is one of the few places that teaches students how to groom pets. So if you let the students take a stab at your pet it's 50% off! Normally they do a great job but this time he basically came back shampooed and blow dried. He didn't get his winter coat thinned out like he normally does and he was still shedding a ton! Oh well. For $35 it was still well worth the money to have him smell all non-dog and lovely! We did, however, decide that his furry "speed lines" behind his legs/elbows needed to be trimmed. After a few snips with my craft ribbon scissors, I went a little cutting happy and trimmed his belly and his bum too! His little bum is so cute now! It's perfect round and bobs back and forth when he walks with his now very tiny legs! Here's a little shot for your enjoyment!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Talk to everyone in a week! =)

Boy I sure am cutting it really close this time around for this week's challenges. I had finished a few challenges this afternoon but my computer went wonky and wouldn't let me upload them from my camera! Anyways I'll keep these posts short and sweet because it's already 1 AM!! I've never tried using a sketch from Sketch Girl before but I've been a follower for some time now and it's about time I gave her awesome sketches a try! I love how they are a bit busier but yet, still really clean and simple. And this week's colors at SPCC are just so bright and cheerful! I rarely use Cameo Coral and I have no idea why. But paired with the right colors and presto!

Fall To Layout #82 & SPCC #38

Well I've tried to be productive on my day off before having to work this weekend but I haven't accomplished very much at all! I set my alarm to wake up at 8 AM and of course I managed to snooze and wake up at 10:30. Why do I do that to myself? Instead of just setting my alarm for a decent time to wake up, I always set it waaaay too early and end up like today. Having 5 minute snoozes from 8-10:30!!! I think somewhere in my zombie sleeping state, I reset the alarm for 9, turned it completely off at 10 and finally woke up at 10:30. I'm really hoping to get a few challenges completed before the weekend because I've got a load of things on my to-do list and it doesn't help that I work the entire weekend and I lose an hour! Here's my take on this week's Clean & Simple Fall to Layout #82 and SPCC #38. I loved the sample card for the Fall to Layout challenge. It's a great example of less is WAY more. I'm going to gun for another card before I need to walk the dog, get dinner ready, shower.. You know, the other essentials other than stamping!

SPCC #37, SFYTT Feb 27

Boy oh boy it sure is LATE! I've been crazy busy lately and haven't been able to post very much last week. I was busy prepping for a workshop for my good friend Penny and it was SUPER fun. I'll post more on the FIVE projects we completed another day! Here's my attempt at this week's SPCC color challenge combined with February's last SFYTT! There's some GREAT blog candy to be won and you still have a few more days to participate in all four SFYTT. 

I attempted to do an emboss resist technique where I stamped the Pumpkin Pie card stock with Night of Navy with the Fine Flourish stamp. Then I stamped the damask (is that what it's called?) image from Friends 24-7 and embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I sponged Brilliant Blue all over the card stock and wiped off any ink that was on the embossed image. Now some may think that I cheated and used brown pastels on the tree branch but I actually mixed some Brilliant Blue and Pumpkin Pie together. Alright, it's super late and I need to catch some ZzzzZ's! Hopefully I can participate in this week's Stampin' Royalty challenge before the deadline is up! G'nite!

SPCC #36, SFYTT & Stamping Royalty #7

Woot woot! I think this may be the first time or one of the very few times that I've combined 3 challenges in one!! I'm super super hooked onto SPCC. It's the only challenge that I try really hard to do every week. 
And if you haven't already checked out Sketch For You To Try, go now!! The prize is amazing so that's definitely been a good incentive to incorporate Jen's gorgeous sketches into my crafting. Her sketches have always been super clean and easy to use. Sometimes sketch challenges are a little too wild for me and I have a hard time making really busy cards. The last challenge i was able to incorporate into this card is Stamping Royalty's challenge #7. I was hoping to take part in Stamping Royalty's challenges since they first started but I'm pretty lazy. This week the challenge was to make a masculine card and that's a definite challenge for me. I don't think I've ever made a masculine card! I want to use the excuse of me not owning any masculine stamps but who am I kidding?? I don't need a masculine stamp to make a manly card! 
So lately I've been thinking there's a lot of stuff I own in my crafting repertoire that I don't touch. One of those items are sponges! I love the look and I remember having a really hard time using them when I first got sponges 2 years ago. Now I know what you're thinking... How hard is it to sponge color onto a card?? And I have no answer for you, but I just remember not liking how the cards looked whenever I tried to sponge it. Hideous!! I textured the Barely Banana with the new Perfect Polka Dots impressions folder and actually flipped it upside own and had the dots face down. The cupcakes were cut out and jazzed up with some Dazzling Diamonds. The grosgrain ribbon is glued onto the satin ribbon before being tied. 

Now totally side note. I've been watching The Bachelor the entire time I've been writing this post. And my friend Penny just posted about her thoughts on reality TV. I have to admit, I'm a reality TV junky. Now I don't watch some of the hits like Big Brother and I've watched a season here and a season there of some other big hits like Survivor, America/Canada's Next Top Model, Top Chef, etc etc. Hahah now that I think about it, I've probably watched every reality show out there except Big Brother. For those that have been following The Bachelor this season, what are your thoughts on Rosalind? Do you think she actually had "inappropriate" relations with one of the producers of the show? It's pretty hard to believe that a house full of women would make up individual lies against one other girl in the house. Rosalind's last comment about how "inappropriate" it was for the host, Chris, to hit on the fired producer's wife in Australia was her shooting herself in the foot. Anyways, Top Chef Masters is now on! More reality TV! G'nite!

SPCC #35 & FTL #79

Boy I hate it when weekends just fly by and on Sunday you're sitting there going "Darn!". At least it's a gorgeous Sunday and the sun is shining! I'm trying out a Fall To Layout (FTL) sketch from the Clean & Simple blog. I've been following this blog for a while and absolutely love the clean lines that the sketches always offer. 
This week's SPCC colors were also nice and bright and easy to incorporate into a simple sketch. I textured both white backgrounds but you can't really tell with one of them. The summer sun used on the orange isn't very bright because I tried doing the scratch n' sniff technique but have never had success with it. It does still smell orangey though so I decided to leave it. In the photo it looks quite orange but in person it looks like a breastfeeding baby's poop. I've got a big night of card making in front of me. Hopefully we'll finish off a bit early so I can still catch the last bit of the big hockey game against the US tonight.

SPCC #34

Yay!! I'm sooo glad that I have today and tomorrow off. It was such a LONG stretch last week of 6 days. Thank goodness I managed to get the last color combo done yesterday! So far I'm glad I have been able to do SPCC's challenges every week since I've stumbled onto the blog. I'm so glad Samantha and the amazing SP divas are running this blog. The biggest reason I like it, other than the fact that all the divas are the sweetest people every, is because they don't overload you with colors. Some color challenges give you 4-6 colors to use and it gets overwhelming for me because I really like CAS (clean and simple) cards. This week's colors worked perfectly with the leftover card stock I had from 2 weekends ago. I just needed to swap out the Summer Sun and replace it with Rich Razzleberry. Here's an easel card again I've got a few weddings this year so I figured I'd get a head start! You can't tell but the bride's veil and dress are lined with Dazzling Diamond. And the words "To have and to hold" are darker because I stamped it in Versamark first, then Rich Razzleberry so I could emboss it with some clear powder. Off to make more cards! Three cheers to days off!! Hip hip hurray! Hip hip hurray! Hip hip hurray!

SPCC #33

Wow I can't believe it's finally SATURDAY NIGHT!! Tomorrow will be my 6th day of work and I am excited!! Working 6 days when you're used to working 4 days a week really tires one out!! Today I came home and fell asleep on the couch from 5:30 to 8:00!! Good thing Jamie cooked dinner! We ordered Panago Pizza yesterday and now he's on this mission to perfect the pizza he makes. So today we had pizza for supper. It was probably the best one he's made to date. But boy, healthy pizza is definitely a little less tasty than unhealthy pizza. When we were deciding what pizza to order from Panago, I decided to look at the calories involved with each slice. Can you believe that a slice of vegetarian and a slice of the panago classic (basically a deluxe pizza with pepperoni, ham, onion, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers and sauce) BOTH HAVE 220 calories each!?!? So when i ate 4 slices at work the other day, I had almost 1/2 my days' calories!! 

Now I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned anything about my job but I'm a public health nurse. That means I visit new moms when they come home from the hospital with their baby and I also give immunizations in our clinic and a bunch of various other things that relate to primary health care. I had to visit a mom this week that had a 39 week old stillborn and it was an extremely hard visit to do. Even as an outsider to the situation, my heart ached for this family and I can't even imagine what runs through their mind every night before they fall asleep. There were so many unanswered questions and there always is. The biggest one for this family was the "What if" questions. What if I had asked the doctor to perform a c-section? What if I went to the hospital sooner? Sometimes I think we take for granted how amazing it is that a healthy baby is born. Just take a second today and be thankful for us being born healthy and for our healthy partner, family, friends and their children. 

Here's my take on this week's SPCC #33 challenge. I love the colors an thought of the Circle Circus set as soon as I saw the colors. I wanted a lighter pink in there so I stamped the Pink Passion "full strength" first and the other image I stamped on scrap and then stamped onto the card stock. It's a great way to get various shades from one ink pad. 

I better end this here and head to bed! Another day of baby heels to be poked and breastfeeding moms to help!

Mojo 123 & SPCC 32 & Soy Milk Comparison!

Well I've gotta hustle with this post, gotta leave for work in like 15 minutes. I've been so busy lately and can't believe it's already Thursday!! Here's my quick (HA! quick...) take on this week's Mojo Monday and SPCC challenge. I know the little strip of creamy caramel is falling off but I didn't notice until after I took the picture and I just don't have time to fix it right now!! But I'll be sure to fix it before I give the card away! 


On a side note (even though I'm totally running late!), I've been trying out a few different soy milks lately because my lactose sensitivity has been destroying my gut lately. The first one I tried was Silk. I got the green box Organic No Sugar Added. It was absolutely DELISH! Ridiculously creamy for a soy milk and even without the added sugar, it was sweet enough for me. Tasted like a semi-sweet milkshake. The second one I tried was So Good with no sugar added. Boy that was NOT my favorite. It was grainy feeling in my mouth and it was OH SO SWEET. I couldn't believe it didn't have added sugar!! And I kept asking Jamie, how in the world is it soooo sweet?? It tasted as if they used candied soy beans to make it! Bleh! The latest one I've tried and by far my favorite is the So Nice unsweetened. It tasted exactly the way I wanted it to (as a substitute for milk!). It was light and when drunk in a big gulp out of the fridge, gave me a quenching feeling with just the slightest hint of sweetness. I'm sold on So Nice!! Anyways gotta run off to work now!! Mojo 122 & SPCC 31

Well it's my day off after a horrifically busy weekend at work. It's amazing how babies comes in mega waves. Had many many moms to visit and a lot of heels to poke!! I'm just glad I got today off but booo I'm right back to the grind tomorrow and I know there's already another 2 moms to visit. Anyways Heidi at work just had a baby (9lbs 2oz!!!) and another lady at work wanted some thank you cards. So once again I'm trying to be efficient and not only make 2 cards at one time but combine 2 challenges! Here's my take on Mojo Monday #122 and SPCC #31. I'm very very excited that my friend Penny has started to participate in card challenges. I've been trying to get my fellow card making friends to join me in the blogging world and Penny finally did!! Hip hip hooray for Penny (and baby Annika for giving her time to do so!). Now don't look too closely at the ovals because I cut the watercolor paper oval out with my Coluzzle but the Apricot Appeal oval was eye-balled and trimmed by hand.
